Feel the Rays

You never know just how far a walk around the neighborhood or a day spent out visiting antique shops might mean to your elders. Several recent research studies have shown a positive correlation between social interaction and health and well-being among older adults. senior outing

Social isolation and loneliness can have both an emotional and physical impact. Both constitute to major risk factors for morbidity, mortality, depression and elevated systolic blood pressure.

Keeping socially active can help with cognitive decline by continuing to use and challenge the brain. Also, some studies have shown that more frequent social activity maintained lower levels of disability in several areas and some individuals were able to live independently longer than their less social counterparts.

Let’s continue to encourage our loved ones to remain active even if that means one trip a week. Saturday outings never upset anyone! April is National Parkinson’s Awareness Month

Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a chronic and progressivemovement disorder, meaning that symptoms continue and worsen over time. Nearly one million people in the US are living with Parkinson’s disease.
The specific group of symptoms that an individual experiences varies from person to person. Primary motor signs of Parkinson’s disease include the following. The cause is unknown, and although there is presently no cure, there are treatment options such as medication and surgery to manage its symptoms.

Tremor of the hands, arms, legs, jaw and face
Bradykinesia or slowness of movement
Rigidity or stiffness of the limbs and trunk
Postural instability or impaired balance and coordination
